We don’t often blog real life science stories but this one we couldn’t pass by. It seems a team of astronomers in Hawaii have discovered a brand new pink planet that greatly resembles the mysterious planet Kroma, the setting for Afroellas current adventures and the source of the robot menace.
Apparently if you point your telescopes towards the Virgo constellation and look for the bright spot, that is in fact where you’ll find planet Kro…ahem we mean…GJ504b .

Even better though, with a sun much hotter than ours, we’re going to assume the beaches are amazing!
Now we have no concept of how far 57 light years is but it can’t take any longer than an East Coast Railway journey from London to Leeds (ask Gemma) so pack your bikinis people, let’s all go to GJ 504b

If you haven’t already picked up your copy of the latest instalment of Afroella here’s a 2 page sampler to wet your appetite…here we find our daring captain in a little bit of a squeeze…

Come and swing by and say hi (we love to chat!) or if you fancy you can get your hands on your copy of Afroella and some pretty awesome merch to go with…you might catch 1 or two cheeky surprises from us too along the way.
Remember to check out the website at http://kapowcomicconvention.com the lineup is looking fantastic with Lucha Wrestling, some amazing comics talent and plenty of previews for upcoming movies (Amazing Spiderman FTW!)

In the run up to release of issue 2 we’ll be posting concept art, our influences and sneaky peaks of what’s to come.
So to kick things off here’s a cheeky look at the designs for the President and citizens of the Planet Kroma.

With the look of Afroella and her world based very much on retro American Sci-Fi we wanted to make the planet Kroma distinctly different to give it an alien feel.
The trick though was to remain within the overall aesthetic so we began by looking at what other countries were producing in the same period. What really stood out was Soviet Sci-Fi as while sharing a lot of similar elements to its US counterpart it had its own very recognizable identity which sets it apart from the rest.
I’ll be chatting much more about this in upcoming updates as more is revealed of Kromas architecture, costume and technology.
